Working with elevation contours may be the secret to making the planet a better place.

Working with elevation contours allows the installation of long ponds.

Long ponds maximise life...both on land and in the water.

During permaculture training, it seemed that all roads pointed to long ponds, but never once was the visit to a long pond taken.

It's almost as if Bill wanted the reader to come up with long ponds on her/his own. Between the chapter on Aquaponics and the revelation of edge maximisation for long ponds versus round ponds, the "you got peanut butter in my chocolate/you got chocolate in my peanut butter" moment for long ponds never appeared.

Every time I think of permaculture or consider a permaculture design, I can't think of anything but building long ponds on each significant contour, floating human dwellings on the pond, raising enormous quantities of fish, and restricting the land use to food forest components.

More detail about long ponds/canals can be found at this link...Canals.
